ERG mode explained
In ERG mode the app sets a wattage and the smart trainer adjusts the resistance so that you produce exactly that power – whether you pedal fast or slow.
When ERG is great
- Intervals with fixed wattages, e.g. sweet spot or threshold.
- When you’re watching Netflix, Prime Video & co. and don’t want to shift.
The trap: the “ERG wall”
If you slow down, the trainer increases the resistance to keep the watts right. In an interval that can spiral: you pedal even slower, it gets even harder. Tip: keep your cadence deliberately high (85–95), and keep pedalling briefly in rests.
Easier and harder
If an interval feels too hard today, that’s not failure. 5 % easier is better than stopping.
